Dale Spencer: Banting Postdoctoral Fellow
dspencer@ualberta.ca
The Department of Sociology is very pleased to welcome Dr. Dale Spencer. Dale is one of the 23 scholars across the country who were recently awarded a SSHRC Banting Post-doctoral Fellowship. This is a highly prestigious award, and brings honour to our department and the university as well. Dale is supervised by Dr. Kevin Haggerty.
The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is administered by Canada's three federal granting agencies: the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council. The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program aims to attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally, to develop their leadership potential and to position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow, positively contributing to Canada’s economic, social and research-based growth through a research-intensive career.
Daniel Trottier dtrottie@ualberta.ca
Daniel is a postdoctoral fellow working with Dr. Kevin Haggerty. He is currently finishing his PhD at Queen's University. His doctoral research focuses on the rise of social media surveillance with Facebook as a case study. Daniel wishes to expand on this research by studying the continued growth of information and communication technologies in everyday life, and their consequences for visibility and social sorting. Daniel is eager to connect with the academic community at the U of A, especially through guest lectures, sitting in on graduate courses, as well as informal gatherings.
Our Postdocs are currently sharing the Visitors' Office on the 5th floor (T 5-29). Please take the time to introduce yourself and welcome them to our department.
